Brian Pastor is a nineteen-year resident of Elk Grove and has lived in the Sacramento area for over thirty years. He graduated from Christian Brothers High School and earned his medical degree from Fatima College of Medicine in the Philippines. He volunteered for over fifty medical missions in the Philippines where he provided medicine and treatment to underserved multi-generational families and people with disabilities.
His mom spent forty-two of her working years as a nurse for Veterans hospitals. His dad was a medical technologist for Kaiser. They finished their careers in Sacramento and wanted Elk Grove to be their home. His relatives are among the many nurses and other medical professionals that help provide care for residents in our growing city. Evaluating needs and providing the best possible care is in his education, experience and DNA.
Shortly after his medical missions, Brian experienced major life events that would set his path towards providing greater care: the death of his father due to lung cancer and his mother suffering a stroke. He found himself deciding between working and taking care of family. He realized our city didn't have the resources and services to uplift vulnerable residents like him. He was compelled to help others so they could avoid having the same experience.
Over the years, Brian observed that Elk Grove constantly lacks solutions to help struggling households and the ability to create a healthy ecosystem for businesses and residents. He's asked members of our community, both urban and rural, about the issues that are important to them. They've shared concerns that really hit home: 1) struggling multi-generational households 2) lack of employment for seniors and the disabled and 3) erosion of rural communities and local farming due to development. Residents also raised concerns about property theft, bullying at local schools, and struggling businesses. It was this moment that he decided to use his education, experience, and family values for the betterment of Elk Grove and run for mayor.
